Class Descriptions

  • A dynamic fusion of gymnastics and dance, Acro emphasizes artistry, flexibility, strength, and control. Students practice a wide range of skills including contortion, balancing tricks, and tumbling, all tailored for stage performance. This discipline challenges dancers to push physical boundaries while maintaining grace and fluidity.

With curriculum developed by Ashley Langston of Mather Dance and Acro Annex, dancers are sure to maximize artistry in floor work, transitions and inversion tricks.

  • Ballet is a refined and disciplined art form rooted in centuries of tradition, with a universal vocabulary of movement executed with precision and grace. At Groove Studios, we offer a Vaganova-based curriculum—the esteemed Russian method known for its demanding technique and emphasis on strength, alignment, and expressive artistry.

Our program provides dancers with a solid technical foundation through progressive training. As students advance, they may be invited to begin Pointe work based on their strength, technique, and readiness, adding a new dimension to their classical ballet journey.

  • Contemporary dance has become one of the most influential and widely performed styles in the dance world today. It blends the emotional vulnerability of the dancer with a strong technical foundation, encouraging authentic expression through movement.

This versatile style draws from multiple dance forms—including Ballet, Jazz, Lyrical, and Hip-Hop—utilizing breath-driven phrasing, dynamic isolations, and fluid transitions. At Groove Studios, our contemporary classes challenge dancers to explore storytelling, artistry, and physicality in equal measure.

  • The Godfrey Method offers a distinctive training approach designed to develop well-rounded dancers and athletes. Going beyond traditional technique, this method emphasizes often-overlooked elements such as mental conditioning, injury prevention, and holistic body awareness.

By nurturing both the physical and psychological aspects of performance, The Godfrey Method equips dancers with the tools they need for longevity, resilience, and sustainable success in their careers.

  • Hip Hop, also known as Street Dance, is an energetic and expressive style that blends rhythmic, dynamic, and freestyle movement to help dancers explore and develop their own unique movement identity.

Rooted in cultural expression and creative innovation, Hip Hop encompasses a range of substyles—including Breakdance, House, Popping, Locking, and more—each offering distinct techniques and flavor. This style empowers dancers to push boundaries, embrace individuality, and tap into their full artistic potential through powerful, grounded movement.

  • Originating in the United States, Jazz dance is a vibrant and ever-evolving technique that includes a range of styles such as Traditional Jazz, Broadway Jazz, and the high-energy LA-based Jazz Funk.

Known for its sharp precision, speed, and dynamic flair, Jazz dance incorporates elements of ballet technique, isolated movements, strong musicality, and stylized groove. Whether on stage or in the studio, Jazz challenges dancers to combine technical discipline with expressive performance.

  • Lyrical is an expressive and emotive dance style that blends elements of Ballet, Jazz, and Acro. Rooted in strong technique, this style requires a solid foundation in Ballet to execute its fluid, extended movements with control and grace.

Often interpretive in nature, Lyrical choreography is designed to tell a story—drawing on breath-based phrasing, musicality, and emotional depth to create powerful, moving performances.

  • Step into the spotlight with our Broadway Jazz class! Dancers will learn to combine Jazz technique with character work, lip syncing, and theatrical expression as they bring their favorite musical numbers to life.

This class emphasizes performance quality, storytelling, and stage presence—perfect for aspiring triple threats who love to sing, act, and dance like they're on Broadway.

  • Our Mommy & Me classes offer a joyful introduction to movement, music, and creativity for our youngest dancers—typically ages 1–3. Designed for little ones who may still be in diapers or need extra support, this class invites a parent or caregiver to participate alongside their child.

Through playful activities, basic dance steps, and imaginative exploration, this class builds confidence, coordination, and connection in a nurturing environment.

  • Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT) is a foundational conditioning class that enhances dancers’ technique through targeted flexibility, strength, and core stability training. This innovative program is designed to develop the muscle memory essential for precise and safe execution of movement across all dance styles.

Using ballet-specific exercises and a progressive, level-based approach, PBT helps dancers improve alignment, control, and body awareness—laying the groundwork for long-term technical growth and injury prevention.

  • Tap dance transforms the dancer into both performer and musician. Wearing shoes fitted with metal plates on the ball and heel of the foot, dancers create syncopated rhythms that bring music to life through movement. This dynamic and versatile style explores a wide range of tempos, accents, and intricate patterns, allowing dancers to fuse technique with musicality. The result is choreography that is both aurally complex and visually compelling.choreography that is both complex to the ear and satisfying to the eye.

  • This course is a general introduction to theater including improvisation, pantomime and mime, voice, diction, and acting techniques. Furthermore, students will study many different eras of theater history as well as specific plays. While students do not need to have previous experience to be in this class, it is imperative that students have a serious attitude toward theater analysis and exploring their own talents. Students will be expected to contribute to class discussions, to give and receive constructive criticism, and to perform.

All students will be expected to show respect to one another while working together, performing or being an audience member.

  • Tumbling is often used as a dynamic traveling pass to enhance transitions in dance choreography. In this class, we focus on building the strength, technique, and confidence necessary to safely and consistently execute inversion skills such as cartwheels, aerials, walkovers, and handsprings.

Developed in collaboration with Coach Lain Lee, our curriculum empowers dancers and gymnasts alike to overcome fear, build resilience, and push past the limitations holding them back—unlocking their fullest physical and creative potential.
