Class Descriptions

  • A wide range of gymnastic and flexibility skills practiced and honed for the stage. Acro & Tricks specifically focuses on body contortion and balancing tricks.

  • Ballet is a highly specific artform with a series of universal terminology and movement that is to be executed precisely. Groove Studios offers a Vaganova based curriculum to our ballet students. Vaganova is the Russian style of ballet and is known as one of the most technically demanding methods of ballet, giving our dancers a strong technical foundation.

Poised in fluid movement combined with precision and strength, upper levels of Ballet technique may include Pointe if the dancer has been invited en to pointe.

  • Contemporary has expanded in popularity around the world and is one of the most dominant styles for trained dancers and artists in the performance industry.

Contemporary dance embodies the vulnerability of the dancer’s emotions and combines it with a firm technical foundation. Contemporary fuses attributes of many dance styles including Ballet technique, Jazz, lyrical, and Hip-hop through a range of isolation and breath based movement.

  • This dance style combines a variety of rhythmic, dynamic, and freestyle movements to explore and identify a signature movement style. Within Hip Hop, also known as Street Dance, there are several substyles such as Breakdance, House, Popping & Locking, and more. Each groovy style offers an opportunity for self-expression, pushing the boundaries of creativity and innovation and empowering dancers to discover their true artistic potential.

  • A dance technique & style originating in the United States, Jazz dance encompasses traditional Jazz, Broadway Jazz, and the LA-based style of Jazz Funk.

Jazz is fast paced, precise, and technical dance style with attributes of ballet technique, isolation movements, sharp timing, and overall groove.

  • Lyrical is an expressive dance style that pulls from various aspects of Ballet, Jazz, and Acro. A strong technique foundation and Ballet background is needed to master this style of dance.

Lyrical dance is often interpretive in nature and the choreography is designed to tell a story through breath based movement.

  • Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT) is a foundational class designed to improve upon the dancer’s technique through flexibility training & focusing on dancer specific conditioning. It is an innovative body-conditioning and strengthening program that has been designed to enhance students' technique by focusing on training the muscle memory required in each exercise in all forms of dance. It is a unique training system using ballet-technique specific exercises to train skill acquisition in a graded and progressive manner from junior through to advanced levels.

  • In tap dance, the dancer becomes both a performer and a musician. Shoes with metal plates on the ball and heel of the foot are worn to create syncopated rhythms with the dancer's feet. The style of tap is dynamic and versatile, where a wide range of tempos, accents, and patterns are explored. This allows for the blending of technique with musicality to create choreography that is both complex to the ear and satisfying to the eye.

  • This course is a general introduction to theater including improvisation, pantomime and mime, voice, diction, and acting techniques. Furthermore, students will study many different eras of theater history as well as specific plays. Students will be expected to contribute to class discussions, to give and receive constructive criticism, and to perform.

All students will be expected to show respect to one another while working together, performing or being an audience member.

  • Tumbling is often used as a traveling pass for transitions in dance. In Tumbling class we focus on the skills necessary to safely and successfully execute tumbling skills relevant to choreography.

  • Mommy and me classes are a fun way to explore dance and creativity with younger children. This is a great class for students still in diapers or for those who require a little more assistance in and during class.
